Russian Frozen Assets (Seizure and Aid to Ukraine) Bill

Labour will back calls for a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Russia and work with allies to enable the seizure and repurposing of frozen Russian state assets.

The bill text addresses one part of the promise but not both. The Long title states the bill will 'make provision about the seizure of frozen assets connected to the Russian Federation' and 'require the Secretary of State to publish recommendations about the use of such assets to fund military, reconstruction and humanitarian work in Ukraine', which directly addresses the promise to 'enable the seizure and repurposing of frozen Russian state assets'. However, the bill text makes no mention of supporting or backing calls for a 'Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Russia', which is the first part of the promise. Since only the frozen assets component is addressed, this constitutes partial fulfilment.
