Carers and Care Workers Bill

Labour will bring in workforce and training plans for sectors such as health and social care, and construction.

The bill requires the Secretary of State to publish and implement a 'Care Workers Employment Strategy' and establishes a National Care Workers Council responsible for 'setting professional standards for care workers' and 'establishing a system of professional qualifications and accreditation for care workers'. This directly addresses workforce and training plans for social care (care workers). However, the promise specifically requires plans for three sectors: health, social care, AND construction. The bill text only addresses social care/care workers and makes no mention of the health sector more broadly or the construction sector at all. Therefore, the bill partially fulfils the promise by addressing one of the three specified sectors.
